Getting Started
To begin Pilates teacher training, students must first complete the Movement Principles module. This foundational course is required before progressing to the remaining Balanced Body Pilates teacher training modules.
Movement Principles Teacher Certification
Movement Principles is the first required module in the Balanced Body Pilates teacher training program and serves as the foundation of the instructor training system. This course focuses on understanding how the body moves, how to recognize and improve movement patterns, and how to apply these principles to effective teaching. Designed for both new and experienced instructors, Movement Principles provides practical tools to assess alignment, support injury recovery, and enhance overall performance.
MOVEMENT PRINCIPLES (16 hours)
Prerequisite for all Balanced Body Pilates coursework.

This course builds a strong movement foundation that supports confident teaching across all Pilates environments.
Mat Pilates Teacher Certification
Mat training is a core component of the Pilates method and an essential part of the Balanced Body Pilates teacher certification pathway. The Mat program builds progressively through three modules, developing strong teaching skills, clear movement understanding, and effective class design for a wide range of clients and abilities.
MAT 1 Introduction to Pilates and Beginning/Intermediate Mat Exercises
(16 hours)
Prerequisites: Movement Principles, 10 Mat classes. 6 months of experience teaching movement and anatomy is recommended.
What the course covers:
Pilates principles and foundational Mat repertoire
Exercise modifications and progressions
Teaching group classes and special populations
Class design and cueing fundamentals
Mat 1 introduces the principles and foundations of the Pilates method. This module covers beginning and intermediate Mat exercises, with an emphasis on safe execution, modifications, and effective teaching strategies for group classes.
MAT 2 Intermediate and Advanced Mat Exercises
(16 hours)
Prerequisite: Movement Principles & Mat 1.

Intermediate and advanced Mat exercise
Progressive skill development
Programming for mixed-level classes
Teaching strategies for advanced movement
Mat 2 expands on the Mat repertoire, introducing intermediate and advanced exercises. Instructors develop programming skills and learn how to structure Mat classes for a variety of levels with confidence and clarity.
MAT 3 Enhanced Mat and Props
(16 hours)
Prerequisite: Mat 1 & Mat 2 or equivalent training
What the course covers:
Enhanced Mat exercises using props
Functional upper and lower body programming
Creative and accessible class design
Applying the Balanced Body Programming System
Safety information for teaching older adults, pre and post–natal women, and clients with back, knee, neck and shoulder conditions
Mat 3 completes the Mat training by incorporating props such as rings, rollers, bands, and balls. This module introduces creative programming tools that expand traditional Mat work while maintaining the integrity of the Pilates method.

Reformer Pilates Teacher Certification
The Balanced Body Pilates Reformer Certification builds progressively from foundational skills to advanced programming. These modules train instructors to teach safely, confidently, and effectively using the Pilates Reformer across a wide range of clients and settings.
REFORMER 1 Introduction to the Reformer & Beginning Exercises (18 hours)
Prerequisite: Movement Principles and 20 Reformer classes. 1 year experience teaching movement. Anatomy required prior to testing out.

Introduction to the Reformer and beginning exercises
Emphasis on safety, alignment, and foundational movement patterns
Prerequisite: Movement Principles and Reformer experience
REFORMER 2 Intermediate Exercises
(16 hours)
Prerequisite: Reformer 1.
What the course covers:
Intermediate Reformer exercises and progressions
Modifications for special populations
Focus on assessment, class design, and problem solving.
REFORMER 3 Advanced Exercises & Programming
(16 hours)
Prerequisite: Reformer 2
What the course covers:
Advanced and super-advanced exercises
Progressive sequencing and advanced programming
Preparation for confident, high-level teaching

Trapeze Table Teacher Certification
The Balanced Body Pilates Trapeze Table Module provides advanced training in Cadillac and Trapeze Table exercises, with applications for rehabilitation, general conditioning, and high-level programming. This module expands an instructor’s ability to work across multiple pieces of equipment with confidence, safety, and precision.
TRAPEZ TABLE & CADILLAC CERTIFICATION MODULE
What the course covers:
Full Trapeze Table and Cadillac repertoire
Working with Allegro® and Allegro® 2 Tower of Power
Half Trapeze and Wall Tower applications
Sequencing and programming for beginner through advanced clients
Equipment setup, safety, and maintenance
Teaching strategies for rehabilitation and performance-based training
This module is part of the internationally recognized Balanced Body certification program and is taught at Bodyline Pilates, an official Balanced Body host studio.
Instruction is led by Balanced Body Master Instructor Maria Leone.

Teacher Training Practice & Observation
Teacher trainees enrolled in Balanced Body certification may fulfill observation and student teaching hours through select Bodyline group classes. These classes provide real time experience, advanced repertoire exposure, and the opportunity to observe professional instruction in a live studio setting.
